A Marine Speaks Up About Post-war Iraq

Wednesday 12/10/2003

Welcome to my world. I received an email from John Jones, a former, but always U.S. Marine who stays in contact with other Marines on a weekly all Marine website, grunt.com. They have a newsletter. John feels that I'm one of the few in the media who calls it like it is, and has forwarded the letter to me. I wish I could use it all but it's simply too much material. John says for those who fight for it, freedom has a special flavor the protected will never know. That is correct Marine!! As the Democrats and left wing media hammer away at President Bush for post war Iraq, the Marines report good news that you won't see in print or on TV. Here is some of it:

Since May the First Battalion of the Iraq Army has graduated with 60 thousand Iraqis providing security for their fellow citizens.

Nearly all of Iraq's 400 courts are fully independent and operating.

Power generation is exceeding the pre-war average.

All 22 universities and 43 tech colleges are open, as are nearly all primary and secondary schools, with teachers earning 12 to 25 times their former salaries.

All 240 hospitals and over 1200 clinics are open, with doctors earning 8 times what they earned under Saddam.

And pharmaceutical distribution has gone from nothing to 700 tons in May to a current total of 12 thousand tons, with over 22 million children vaccinated by the coalition.

Most of the pre-war telephone services are restored, and the banks are fully independent, making business loans, and Iraq has a single unified currency for the first time in 15 years.

There are now over 170 free newspapers in Iraq.

There is much, much more to the email from the Corps website, www.grunt.com, but hell, here I am out of time again. In a nutshell, the Marines have a message for the liberals, the left wing media, and all Americans. President Bush has not faltered or failed in Iraq. That my friends is correct. And John, thanks for sharing your ammo with me brother. Semper Fi Marine, as I see it ... I'm H.G. Listiak.
